Highland doesn’t do any scanning itself. We recommend you use the software comes with your scanner, and save the file as a PDF. If you’re looking for a scanner, we’re partial to the ScanSnap by Fujitsu.
If your scanning software doesn’t do OCR, we’ve had great success with Prizmo for the Mac. Hole-punches, creases, marks on paper, and slanted text can confound a computer, and we’ve found Prizmo to be quite good at sorting it out.
Once you have a scanned PDF with OCR applied, just drag it into Highland. Depending on your equipment and setup, you may find you need to tweak settings on your scanner or OCR software, but once you’ve gotten one screenplay done, you can do dozens.
